Sony is leaving the aftermarket car audio business, according to a notice sent to dealers in Europe and North America and reported in early October. The exit covers aftermarket speakers, subwoofers, amplifiers and head units, including the Mobile ES range, and Sony’s marine audio line is being discontinued alongside it. Sony had not issued a public press release at the time of reporting.

The reported timeline: dealers keep receiving existing stock until December 31, 2026, with Sony aiming to clear inventory over the Black Friday period. Dealer-facing support is expected to continue into early 2027 (reports say spring), after which support is slated to move to a direct Sony channel. Existing owners are expected to keep getting support for products they already own.

Why it matters for tuning: if you run Sony Mobile ES amps or processors with auto time-alignment and EQ, save your settings and take a fresh in-car measurement now, while dealer support and software are still available. A saved before-and-after pair makes it much easier to rebuild a tune if a unit ever needs replacing with another brand.

Reports point to falling aftermarket sales and the growth of factory-integrated infotainment as background, though Sony has not publicly detailed its reasons. Sony has not yet confirmed specifics beyond the dealer notice, so check with your installer for warranty and service terms.
